No invite for Azerbaijan: Official participant list for the Democracy Summit
The State Department on Tuesday published the official participant list for President Biden's upcoming summit for Democracy.
Azerbaijan is not among the 110 invitees, Turan’s Washington correspondent reports.
Taiwan, Tuvalu, Serbia and Kosovo seem to be the only additions when compared with initial list that was circulated among media a few weeks ago.
As expected, the final list leaves out several ostensible U.S. partners such as Turkey, while Georgia and Armenia are the only Caucasian countries in the list. No invite for Putin’s Russia either.
The Summit, which will take place virtually on December 9-10, will “kick off a year of action by participants to make democracies more responsive and resilient, and to build a broader community of partners committed to global democratic renewal,” the State Department said.
“We aim to show how democracies can deliver on the issues that matter most to people: strengthening accountable governance, expanding economic opportunities, protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, and enabling lives of dignity.”
