Number of candidates for President of Azerbaijan reaches six

Baku/12/18.23/Turan: On December 18, Chairman of the People’s Front Party of United Azerbaijan, member of the Milli Majlis Gudrat Hasanguliyev and Chairman of the National Front Party, also member of the Milli Majlis Razi Nurullayev were nominated Presidential candidates to participate in the early Presidential elections in 2024.

Note that Gudrat Hasanguliyev was born on January 29, 1965 in the village of Abragunus in the Julfa district of Nakhchivan. He graduated from the Law Faculty of Baku State University.

He was an active member of the People’s Front and worked as an assistant Secretary of State in the government of President Abulfaz Elchibey.

In 2000-2003, he was the secretary of the Central Executive Committee of Azerbaijan from the Party of People’s Front of Azerbaijan.

Later, he had a conflict with the PPFA leadership,left the ranks of the PPFA and founded the People’s Front Party of United Azerbaijan.

Having become loyal to the current authorities, Hasanguliyev was elected a deputy of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan of the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth convocations.

He is the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Legal Policy and State Building of the Milli Majlis.

Recall that he was a Presidential candidate in the 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018 elections.

Razi Nurullayev was born on April 1, 1971 in the village of Khalfali, Imishli region. He graduated from the faculty of English-French languages of the Azerbaijan State University of Languages and the faculty of law of the South Russian Humanitarian Institute.

Member of the Party of People’s Front of Azerbaijan, in 2009-2015 Deputy chairman of the PPFA.

In 2020, after disagreements, he left the PPFA and founded the National Front Party. He was a presidential candidate in the 2018 Presidential election.

Thus, the number of candidates nominated for the early Presidential elections on February 7 has reached six.

So far, the candidacies of the current President Ilham Aliyev, the leader of the Great Creation Party Fazil Mustafa, the head of the Center for Social Research Zahid Oruj and the leader of the Great Azerbaijan Party (GAP) Elshad Musayev have been nominated.

The opposition parties — the Musavat Party, decided not to participate in the Presidential elections, and the Party of People’s Front of Azerbaijan decided to boycott the elections.

According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, the President of Azerbaijan is elected for a term of 7 years on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage, by free, personal and secret ballot.

According to the "Electoral Code", every citizen or citizens who have the right to vote can create an initiative group of at least 100 people to nominate a Presidential candidate. Presidential candidates are nominated after the official publication of the decision on the appointment of elections.

A political party, a bloc of political parties or an initiative group of voters must collect at least 40,000 signatures of voters in defense of their candidate for the Presidency.

The current leader of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, was elected President of Azerbaijan on October 15, 2003. He also won the Presidential elections on October 15, 2008, October 9, 2013 and April 11, 2018-03-
