Ombudsman visits Armenian armed group members
Baku/20.05.21/Turan: Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva has visited Armenian military servicemen detained in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani ombudsman's office reported on 20 May that the visit took place at the Penitentiary Service detention centre without prior notice.
"Once again the members of an armed group stationed by Armenia in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, detained and handed over for investigation in order to prevent crimes against the lives and health of civilians and military personnel accused of committing terrorist crimes, were visited. During the visit, the ombudsman met with these individuals in private and examined the situation of their rights. The detainees expressed satisfaction with the conditions of detention, food and medical care, as well as the treatment provided to them," the statement says.
The Ombudsman's office states that these individuals were treated individually and their rights were explained to them through the presentation of legislation in their native language.
We should note that the armed group was detained on 12-13 December, one month after the trilateral statement signed on 10 November 2020 as a result of the end of the Karabakh conflict. The group of 62 people were detained in Azerbaijan following an armed incident that resulted in the deaths of four Azerbaijani servicemen and seriously wounded one civilian. The Armenian side describes them as "prisoners of war" and the Azerbaijani side as provocateurs. -05D-
