Opposition rally near the monument to Rasulzadeh
In connection with the May 28 Independence Day the opposition forces held a traditional rally near the monument to the founder of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan (ADR) Mammad Emin Rasulzadeh in his native village Novkhani.
First came to the rally supporters of the party Musavat. Its leader Isa Gambar said that 96 years ago the outstanding representatives of the people founded the ADR. It was a state created by the people and the same will helped to restore the independence of the country in the early 90s.
"Glory to supporters of the Rasulzadeh - Elchibey ideas, which today continue to struggle for the restoration of democracy," Gambar said.
Following Musavat, forces belonging to the National Council held a meeting. Its head Jamil Hasanli made a comparison between the government and the ADR. The current regime is mired in corruption and authoritarianism.
"Ilham Aliyev has no social base, which was confirmed by last year's elections.
CEC announced its president and the winner is the candidate of the National Council," he said.
He expressed confidence that the government will not be able to break the democratic forces of the country, who will continue to fight for their ideals and win the victory.
Both actions were attended by over 1,000 people. -03B-
