OSCE / ODIHR Observation Mission Leaves Azerbaijan
Baku / 20.04.18 / Turan: The OSCE / ODIHR election observation mission in the early presidential elections on 11 April ends in the country this week, the mission itself told Turan.
Note that it was originally planned that the mission will depart on April 24.
Two months later, the OSCE / ODIHR will publish the final report on the results of the monitoring of the elections in Azerbaijan and will make recommendations on improving electoral practices and legislation.
On April 12, the mission issued a preliminary report stating that the elections were held in an environment of restrictions of freedoms. The observers' assessments provoked an indignant reaction of pro-government journalists who staged a row at the press conference.
The CEC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan also made indignant statements.
However, critical assessments of the mission were supported by the leadership of the Council of Europe, the European Union and the US Department of State. -06D--
