PACE to hold discussions in connection with Azerbaijan
Baku/06.08.17/Turan: PACE will discuss the situation with human rights, the activities of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan, the website of this structure. Discussions will be held on September 5 in Paris at a meeting of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. At the meeting, the report of the Belgian deputy Alain Desterxhe, devoted to the situation with human rights in Azerbaijan, will be presented.
Discussions related to Azerbaijan will be held at the meeting of the PACE Monitoring Committee on September 7. According to the agenda of the meeting, Stefan Shennach (Austria) and Cesar Preda (Romania) will speak. They must submit a draft report on the situation of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan.
Prior to the discussions, the co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee are expected to visit Azerbaijan. One of the co-rapporteurs Stefan Shennach said that during the coming month he will arrive for a week in Azerbaijan, where he will hold meetings with the country's leadership, representatives of civil society. Last time the co-rapporteurs visited Azerbaijan from 12 to 14 June this year.

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
