Parliamentary committees approve reactionary amendments to the NGO law and grants
On September 30, at a joint meeting of parliamentary committees on legal and economic policy considered amendments to several laws: "On NGOs, Associations and Foundations". "On Grants", and the Migration Code of Azerbaijan.
The Head of the Committee on Legal Policy, Ali Huseynli, informed of the proposed amendments, and said they were motivated by fighting corruption and ensuring transparency. "The proposed amendments will ensure transparency in the activities of NGOs," he said.
These corrections determine the size, and registration of cash donations to local NGOs and branches of foreign NGOs in state agencies, as well as the provision of information about individuals who donate funds. Any banking transactions with donations without providing information on individuals who have made donations are not allowed.
During the discussions, the members of the Committee supported the amendments, describing them as promoting transparency and serving strengthening civil society.
It was decided to recommend amendments for approval by The Milli Mejlis. -02D-
