Pashinyan on peace treaty, delimitation and withdrawal from CSTO
Baku/22.05.23/Turan: Armenia is ready to delimit the border according to the Soviet maps of 1975, and withdraw the troops appropriately. This position is supported by the international community. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a press conference on Monday.
"At the moment, I cannot record any progress in the position of Azerbaijan, which continues to exert military pressure to gain more advantageous positions in the negotiations," Pashinyan said.
"Before the meeting in Washington, we handed over to Azerbaijan our amendments to the text of the peace treaty and now we expect to receive their amendments, which we hope will be in tune with the agreements reached in Washington," he said.
He was also asked whether it is possible to sign a peace treaty during the upcoming high-level meetings in Moscow and Kishinev? In response, Pashinyan said: "If Azerbaijan gives us its version and after reviewing it we see that the document corresponds to the logic of mutual concessions, then the agreement can be signed during the next meetings. But so far we have not received a reaction from Baku."
He also hinted that if the agreement is signed, its guarantors will be not only Russia, but other countries as well.
Commenting on the possibility of Armenia's withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty (CSTO), Pashinyan did not rule out such a prospect.
"If Armenia decides to withdraw from the CSTO, it will be as a result of the fact that the CSTO withdrew from Armenia. By this I mean fulfilling the CSTO obligations. The status of the CSTO member that gives nothing will prevent us from discussing the security agenda with other countries," Pashinyan said.
He added that Armenia had received offers from other countries for arms supplies, but could not receive them due to country's membership in the CSTO. -02D-
