Pashinyan stated that he recognizes the territory of Azerbaijan in 86,600 square kilometers
Baku/17.05.23/Turan: Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared recognition of the "territorial integrity" of Azerbaijan within 86.6 thousand square kilometers. He stated this during a speech at the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik.
Touching upon the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan, the Armenian Prime Minister recalled the recent statement by the head of the European Council Charles Michel.
"Three days ago, through the mediation of the President of the European Council, we took a step forward, stressing that Armenia recognizes 86.6 thousand square kilometers of Azerbaijan's territory, Azerbaijan recognizes 29.8 thousand square kilometers of Armenia's territory," "Sputnik Armenia" quoted Pashinyan.
The Armenian leadership has previously stated that it recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, but the figure of 86,600 square kilometers was not mentioned. This means that Yerevan recognizes Karabakh as an integral part of Azerbaijan. Earlier, official Yerevan tried not to make such confessions, fearing public protests, and above all, the Armenians of Karabakh.
At the same time, Yerevan demands a direct dialogue between Baku and Karabakh with the participation of international mediators to ensure the rights and security of the Armenian population of Karabakh.
Thus, the Armenian authorities dissociated themselves from statements that "Nagorno-Karabakh has nothing to do with the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and that this region has legally seceded from the USSR."
