PFPA Announces New Wave of Pressure from Authorities
Baku/16.01.21/Turan: The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) announced a new wave of pressure on this organization after the end of the Patriotic War.
It began after President Ilham Aliyev attacked the Popular Front Party and the National Council of Democratic Forces at the last government meeting, the party said in a statement.
A few days after the government meeting, the head of the PFPA youth committee, Emil Salimov, and the volunteer bodyguard of the party's leader Ali Karimli, Ruslan Amirov, were summoned for questioning to the prosecutor's office.
According to Radio Azadlig, a criminal case has been launched against Ali Karimli himself.
Although the prosecutor's office denied this message, in the realities of Azerbaijan, such a scenario is not excluded.
In addition, the statement goes on to say, three political prisoners of the PFPA activists - a member of the Presidium Agil Maharramli, another public bodyguard of Karimli - Niyamaddin Ahmedov and an activist of the Salyan regional office Zamin Salayev - were subjected to bias and ill-treatment.
Maharramli petitioned the court to mitigate the sentence, referring to the fact that the official sanction of the article of his charge was reduced by law, but the court showed bias and did not grant the petition.
Although Ahmedov has been detained for almost nine months, he has never been allowed to speak on the phone or meet with his family members.
Salayev was placed in a punishment cell for demanding that his rights be respected.
The PFPA declares that "the reason for the current aggression against it is the principled position of the party to protect the interests of the state and the people after the Patriotic War."
Thus, the PFPA from the very beginning protested against the deployment of Russian troops in Azerbaijan under the pretext of "peacekeeping forces" and condemned the removal of fraternal Turkey from this process.
The PFPA criticized the government's indifference to social protection for veterans, as well as the general population.
The PFPA regrets that the Azerbaijani government, contrary to the expectations of the society, after the war continued its aggressive and repressive attitude towards the real opposition in the country.
“This path does not bode well for our state, our people and the government itself. The Popular Front Party has always put the interests of the people and the state above all else and will continue to do so. No amount of pressure or threat could ever force the party to abandon its principles. The PFPA will continue its activities together with its ally, the National Council and all the progressive forces of the country, so that Azerbaijan will become a free and prosperous country, and will not give up its peaceful and democratic struggle," the statement concludes. -06В-
