Political Emigrants: German Police Investigate Incident Involving Azerbaijani MP

Baku / 03.04.18 / Turan: Germany's law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident that took place in Cologne, at an event organized by the initiative of an Azerbaijani MP Adil Aliyev on March 31. Those who suffered during the incident filed a complaint about him to the police.

The event was held in one of the hotels of Cologne jointly by the Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora organizations under the slogan: "Our Republic, Azerbaijani-Turkish Union, Forward with Ilham!"

According to the statements of Azerbaijani political emigrants, they were not allowed to the meeting, although previously it was announced that it was open to all. At the same time, the bodyguards of the MP used force and beat several political emigrants.

Among the victims was the activist Rauf Babayev, who was allowed to attend the event and even speak, but when he began to criticize the government of Azerbaijan, he was banished from the stage and beaten.

Along with Babayev, Rovshan Gambar (the brother of the head of the Center for National Strategic Thought Isa Gambar) and a number of other persons turned to the police. The applicants asked to initiate a criminal investigation and to prohibit the entry of those guilty of the violence to Germany.

"Responsibility is born by Adil Aliyev, the organizer of the event. I tried not to let the young man be beaten for criticizing the authorities, but they grabbed me and dragged me out of the hall, and then kicked me off the stairs," Rovshan Gambar told the Azadlig radio.

In social networks, a video of Babayev's speech appeared, which expresses disagreement that the meeting is held under the slogan: "Forward with Ilham Aliyev", as the current government forced hundreds of young people to leave the country, like himself.

"Today you are holding an event in connection with the Republic. However, the current government destroys all the values of the republic," he said. At this moment, Adil Aliyev interrupted his speech, demanding not to turn the event into political polemic, and approached the rostrum. A few more people drove Babayev out of the hall.

Babayev himself told Azadlig Radio that he was taken to the dining room and beaten there, with his rib and kidneys injured, and he has a medical opinion about it.

According to Babayev, he was beaten by Gulaga Jabarov, Adil Aliyev's deputy in the kickboxing federation.

Adil Aliyev himself rejected the accusations against him on his Facebook page. Those who tried to enter the hall with posters of offensive content addressed to the Azerbaijani President were not allowed into the hall, he asserted.

He also denied that he went to the event with athletes. He was accompanied only by two members of the Kickboxing Federation. "I have athletes in different countries of the world, and they always participate in my events," Aliyev said. -06D-
