Pro-Kremlin misinformation is not a myth
Riga / 14.11.19 / Turan: The Eastern Partnership region is important for Latvia, both from the political side and from the point of view of security. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Andris Pelsh said this at the opening of the media conference of the Eastern Partnership countries of the EU in Riga.
He noted that the EU supports the Eastern Partnership countries despite the different approaches of these states. “The implementation of EU principles is an individual issue of each country,” he said.
Matthew Buske, head of the European Commission’s cooperation with Georgia, Moldova and cross-border cooperation, said that there are common goals in the fight against misinformation and lies.
"The conference will help shape ideas for strengthening the financial independence of the media," he added.
The deputy head of the Eastern Partnership department and the OSCE of the European External Relations Service, Radoslav Daroki, called on the media of the Eastern Partnership countries to combat Kremlin misinformation.
"Pro-Kremlin disinformation is not a myth. It is a real state-financed force equipped with the latest technology. It is directed against the EU and other neighbors. It is impossible to fight against this misinformation with small resources," Doroki said.-71B-
