Prosecutor calls on to sentence General Rovshan Akperov to 11 years in prison
Baku/13.10.21/Turan: On Wednesday, in the Baku military court at the trial of the former commander of the Baku corps of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Rovshan Akperov, the state prosecutor asked the court to deprive Akperov of his freedom on charges of murder.
The general himself did not admit his guilt and said that on the day of the crime he was not at the scene of the murder. The next meeting is scheduled for October 22, where the defense will speak.
The talk is about the murder in Kiev on May 31, 2001 in front of the Sikora restaurant. As a result of a quarrel between Rovshan Akperov and businessman Elchin Aliyev, the latter was stabbed to death. According to the materials of the investigation, Rovshan Akperov was drunk.
All these years, the law enforcement agencies "forgot" about this crime, despite the numerous appeals and complaints of the deceased. In the same years, having the title of National Hero, Rovshan Akperov rose to the position of commander of the Baku corps of the Azerbaijani Army and the rank of lieutenant general.
The reason why Akperov fell out of favor with the authorities still remains a mystery, but it should be noted that he was removed from office on the eve of the Second Karabakh War. According to unofficial data, he was very indignant and demanded an explanation from the leadership. -02D-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
