Putin Makes It Clear Moscow Not to Support Armenia in Karabakh
Moscow./22.10.20.Turan: “The territories of Azerbaijan were alienated for many years and this could not last forever. For many years, various options were proposed and several times we were close to a solution, but nothing came of it,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 22 live at a meeting of the Valdai discussion club.
“For Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are equal partners, for us it is a tragedy when people are dying there,” he said. According to him, the death toll since the beginning of a new round of the conflict from both sides is about 5 thousand people killed.
He also said that he speaks with Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan every day. As for Turkey's position on Karabakh, according to Putin, the positions do not coincide in everything, but it is pleasant to work with Erdogan. He is independent and makes decisions despite external pressure, Putin said.
A number of Russian experts regarded these assessments of Putin as a bad signal for Armenia, as confirmation that Moscow will not intervene in the military conflict and as confirmation that the war is going on in the territory of Azerbaijan and these territories were occupied by Armenia. -02B-
