Red Cross assistance to Azerbaijani citizens affected by the war
Baku/13.10.21/Turan: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), being a neutral and impartial humanitarian organization, provides assistance to victims of armed conflicts, within its mandate and implements a number of other humanitarian projects in Azerbaijan. On November 13, journalists were told about these projects at a briefing organized by the Baku office of the ICRC at the Park Inn hotel.
After the hostilities in Karabakh last year, the ICRC expanded its work to support the victims, said the head of the public relations department of the Baku office of the ICRC, Ilaha Huseynova.
So, in the former front-line territories, the population was provided with psychological assistance, financial support was provided to households, measures were taken to train first aid, educational work on mine danger was carried out, etc. Thus, in January-June, 12,313 households were provided with cash assistance.
10 people were involved in agricultural projects. In the village of Bala Jafarli, Gazakh region, 19 households received more than 20 kg. green animal feed. 141 people received individual psychological assistance.
14 schools were involved in trainings on providing psychological assistance to mentally traumatized children. Trainings were conducted for 27 psychologists and 6 psychiatrists working in conflict-affected communities.
537 people were involved in mine and unexploded ordnance risk education sessions. The families of 16 victims of mine explosions received financial assistance.
Clarifying the fate of those missing as a result of the conflict is also an important area of the ICRC's work. According to the latest information from the ICRC, the number of people missing as a result of the first Karabakh war on the Azerbaijani side was 3,700. 80% of them are military. Seven people are considered missing as a result of the second war, and they are all military.
The ICRC has established an ante-mortem database to identify recoverable remains. In this regard, DNA samples were collected from 9383 relatives of persons considered missing.
As part of its mandate, the ICRC also visits places where prisoners are held, not only detained as a result of the conflict, but also under criminal law and violations of the migration regime.
Based on the monitoring results, recommendations are provided to government agencies, assistance is provided to prisoners in the form of telephone cards (for foreigners), parcels with humanitarian aid.
The ICRC, in accordance with its mandate, maintains confidential information about persons visited in detention. At the same time, answering the questions of journalists, Huseynova said that according to the ICRC, there are currently no detained citizens of Azerbaijan in Armenia.
In January-June of this year, the ICRC, as a neutral intermediary, organized 182 search operations for remains in the combat zone. -06C-

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals reviewed the appeal of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who contested the extension of his detention. Mammadli's lawyer, Javad Javadov, stated that Mammadli argued the extension of his pre-trial detention was unfounded and linked the criminal prosecution to his human rights activities, Turan reported.

During the hearing, the investigator requested that the complaint be rejected, while Ibrahimov's lawyer, Aghil Laidj, pointed out the lack of grounds for keeping Ibrahimov in custody.

Arrested economist Fazil Gasimov has reportedly faced pressure after protesting the interruption of a phone call with his family on November 16. "The phone call was cut off, and Fazil demanded that the connection be restored.
