Russian Foreign Ministry responded to Pashinyan's proposal to place Russian border guards on the border with Azerbaijan
Baku/05.08.21/Turan: International legal grounds are needed to place Russian border guards along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, said the Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Bikantov, commenting on the proposal of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
Russia is seriously concerned about the recent increase in armed incidents on certain sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. “It is of particular concern that they are accompanied by casualties on both sides. Unfortunately, despite all the steps taken, the tension on the border has not yet subsided.
In this regard, we call on all parties to avoid any action fraught with further degradation of the situation. All emerging issues must be resolved exclusively by peaceful diplomatic means. Russia is ready to contribute to the process of normalizing the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, including through de-escalation measures and the launch of joint work on delimitation and demarcation of the border.
These efforts, together with the unblocking of economic and transport links in the region, as well as the stimulation of intercommunal dialogue, will contribute to the transformation of Transcaucasia into a zone of stability, security and prosperity in accordance with the statements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan," he noted.-02D-
