Russian Jets To Iran? Tehran And Moscow Expanding Military Cooperation, White House Says
Washington D.C./25.02.23/Turan: The White House on Friday said that Russia might provide Iran with fighter jets, in the latest sign of the growing defense cooperation between the two, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
“In November, Iran shipped artillery and tank rounds to Russia for use in Ukraine... Russia is planning to cooperate with Iran to obtain more military equipment in return,” National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said on a call with reporters.
“We’re going to be watching this very closely to see what, if anything, actually transpires,” he added without providing further details on the type of fighter jets or when they may be delivered.
According to Kirby, Iran is “seeking billions of dollars” of Russian military equipment. "... Iran is also seeking to purchase additional military equipment from Russia including attack helicopters, radars and combat trainer aircraft,” he added.
Last month, Washington announced a slew of fresh sanctions and additional measures targeting Iran’s aviation and defense sector.
