Russia's Fierce Attacks On Kyiv 'Not Unexpected', Biden Tells TURAN's Reporter, Pledges More Help
Washington D.C./30.05.23/Turan: U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday reacted to Russia's fierce attacks on the Ukrainian capital and suggested more aid was to come, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports from the White House.
"It's not unexpected," Biden said when asked by TURAN's correspondent about his reaction to Russia doubling down on attacks on Kyiv:
"That's why we've got to continue to give Ukraine all that it needs," Biden added.
The President's comments came as Russia fired a barrage of missiles at Kyiv in an unusual daytime attack following overnight strikes.
Biden was speaking to reporters prior to departing The White House for Delaware.
TURAN's correspondents also asked the President about further U.S. military support to Ukraine. "That's at play," he said in response.
Biden also spoke about his phone call to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"I congratulated Erdoğan," he said. "It was basically a congratulatory call"
The Turkish President "still wants to work on something on the F-16s," Biden said, adding, "I told him we wanted a deal with Sweden, so let’s get that done."
The two will be back in touch with one another, according to Biden.
When asked if he was expecting any movement on Sweden’s membership to NATO, Biden reinstated that he raised that issue with Erdoğan and that they’re going to talk about it "next week."
The White House later issued a readout of Biden-Erdoğan call, saying that they "expressed their shared commitment to continue working together as close partners to deepen cooperation between our countries and people."
"They also discussed their readiness as NATO Allies to address regional and global challenges, including strengthening transatlantic security at the NATO Summit in Vilnius," reads the readout.
