Sahiba Gafarova's First Diplomatic "Success"
Baku / 24.09.20 / Turan: The first serious diplomatic examination of the new speaker of the Milli Majlis turned out to be, to put it mildly, unsuccessful.
The loud statement made the day before following her meeting with the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry was later corrected and turned into an unimportant formulation on duty.
A new person in politics, Sahiba Gafarova, might not have known that what was said in a private conversation or said not for the press should not be published. But where were the members of the delegation, such hardened politicians as Samed Seyidov, Safa Mirzoev and Ambassador Polad Bulbul Oglu?
Apparently, the euphoria from the achieved diplomatic "victory" was so strong that everyone lost a sense of reality, and the press declared Sergey Lavrov's sharp criticism of the actions of the Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan, who impedes a peaceful settlement and that Moscow stands for the liberation of five regions around Karabakh and that this is the official position of Russia.
There is no doubt that something like that was said, but on the same evening the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zakharova did not confirm all this.
According to her, the conflict was discussed, including the issues of the liberation of territories. Further, Zakharova, in a dismissive form characteristic only of her, called the quotations attributed to Lavrov incorrect, and urged not to listen to other sources, but to refer to the information of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Well, in the end, the press service of the Milli Majlis had to change its own information about the meeting between Gafarova and Lavrov, removing loud statements about the negative role of Pashinyan and the liberation of five regions.
I would like to recommend the teacher of the Slavic University to deal with the problems of women and children, which she did for many years in the Milli Majlis, and leave foreign policy issues to professionals. -02B-
