State Department: Release of four political prisoners is not enough
The State Department welcomed the release of a group of civil society activists through the act of clemency of 17 October.
In a statement on behalf of the State Department spokesman Mary Harf it is said that one of the freed, Hasan Huseynli actively cooperated with the Embassy of the United States in the implementation of projects in the field of education.
Besides him, three activists of NIDA were released.
While welcoming these steps, the Department of State considers "wrong" the recent restrictions on the activities of civil society in Azerbaijan.
"We would like to see more positive steps and we urge the authorities to ensure and respect the fundamental rights of all citizens of Azerbaijan," the statement says. -16D-
