March 26 Sumgayit City Court selected in respect of Melikov preventive detention for a period of 2 months. Turan was told by a member of the Supreme Majlis of PFPA Elchin Hasanov.
22-aged Melikov was arrested in Sumgayit on March 25 at about 16.00. Earlier in PFPA they believed that the young man was accused of making counterfeit money.
According to Hasanov, Melikov was tried without a lawyer. Police did not specify what specific drugs, and how much of them were discovered with Melikov, but according to unofficial information, it is of opium.
The activist's father Alisafa Melikov also denied the charge of his son in drug use. According to him, the young man suffers asthma, and could not take drugs.

PFPA has issued a statement condemning the arrest of Melikov. The party considers the prosecution of Melikov, as "a component."part of the efforts of the authorities of repression against the youth."
"The repression will not intimidate youths and make them turn from the busy road of the struggle for democracy in Azerbaijan," further says the statement.
PFPA demanded an end to the pressure on the young and required to free immediately all the activists.
Melikov was the fifth youth activists arrested in March. Earlier, on charges of illegal possession of explosives and drugs were arrested four activists of NIDA. - 16B06 -
