Talysh researcher Igbal Abilov arrested for 4 months
On the evening of July 24, the Sabail District Court ruled against the Talysh researcher Igbala Abilov was given a preventive measure in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months.
He was charged under Art. 283 (incitement of national hatred) and 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
The researcher’s father, Shahin Abilov, told Turan about this.
According to him, I. Abilov rejected the charges brought against him, since he did not commit the crimes charged to him.
Sh. Abilov said that his son had lived in Belarus since childhood.
“My son was not involved in politics. He conducted scientific research, not only regarding the Talysh, but also the entire vast region from China to Turkiyye,” said Sh. Abilov.
He noted that the arrest decision will be appealed to the appellate court.
Igbal Abilov, a citizen of Azerbaijan, ethnic Talysh, who came from Belarus to Azerbaijan on leave, was detained on July 22 by employees of the State Security Service in the village of Bala Kolatan, Masalli region.
Talysh activists believe that I. Abilov was detained on trumped-up charges; the real reason for his persecution is research about various national minorities, including the Talysh of Azerbaijan.
35-year-old Abilov is the editor-in-chief of the printed organ of the virtual “Talysh National Academy” - “Bulletin of the Talysh National Academy”.
