Strasbourg/13.10.23/Turan: The PACE report on Karabakh is not directed against anyone, it is aimed at providing assistance, stated PACE deputy from Croatia Domagoj Haydukovic, commenting on PACE resolution No. 2517 (2023), based on his report No. 15840, Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons.

"Stability and peace in the region can return through the return and reintegration of Armenians in Karabakh. No one questions the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. This integrity also comes through responsibility for the events in this territory. I can tell you about the experience of my country (Croatia), where we also conducted a military operation, and there was an exodus of the population (Serbs). Therefore, the reintegration process is a long process and the goodwill of both sides is necessary for its implementation," Haydukovich said in an interview with journalists from Azerbaijan.

Are EU sanctions against Azerbaijan possible due to the crisis in Karabakh and refusal to purchase Azerbaijani gas? Haydukovich found it difficult to answer this question from the Turan correspondent, saying that this is the prerogative of the EU. At the same time, he ruled out such a prospect in the case of the reintegration of Karabakh Armenians.

He also expressed hope that Azerbaijan will invite the PACE mission and other international organizations to the region to get acquainted with the situation on the ground.

When asked by Turan whether he agrees with the accusations against Azerbaijan about ethnic cleansing in Karabakh, given that the Armenian population itself decided to leave the region, Hajdukovich said that his report states "suspicion of ethnic cleansing." "I don't blame anyone for this, I think that with time and after visiting international organizations, everything will become clearer." ---16B---
