The Council of Europe calls for the release of Leyla Yunus on humanitarian grounds
Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muzhnieks once again called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release human rights activist Leyla Yunus, due to poor health.
" I have received worrying information according to which the health of LeylaYunus, who has been detained in Kurdakhani, near Baku, for more than 16 months now, has seriously deteriorated in recent weeks and reached a critical point in recent days. I believe that her current state of health is not compatible with any form of detention. I fear that without swift action to release her, she may suffer an irreversible deterioration of her condition. Therefore I call on the Azerbaijani authorities to release her on humanitarian grounds," reads the statement by Muzhnieks. -02D-
