The European Court announced the decision in the case of Sayid Dadashbeyli
Baku / 03.12.20 / Turan: On December 3, the European Court of Human Rights announced a decision on the complaint of Said Dadashbeyli, who was sentenced in Azerbaijan to 13 years and 6 months on charges of attempted coup d'etat and high treason.
According to the lawyer Fariz Namazli, the European Court found a violation of Article 6.1 (Right to a fair trial) of the Convention and ordered to pay Sayid Dadashbeyli 3,600 euros in compensation for moral damage.
He was released on July 15 this year, stating that he never pleaded guilty and will seek an acquittal.
On December 10, 2007, the Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced Sayid Dadashbeyli and about 10 other arrested persons to imprisonment : Sayid Dadashbeyli - 14 years, Rashad Aliyev - 14 years, Jeyhun Aliyev - 14 years, Farid Agayev - 13 years, Samir Gojayev - 13 years, Beybala Guliyev - 13 years, Jahangir Karimov - 13 years, Rasim Karimov - 13 years, Emil Mohbaliyev - 12 years, Mikail Idrisov - 12 years in prison.
They were found guilty under Articles: 218 (creation of a criminal community), 274 (high treason), 228 (illegal possession of firearms), 204 (making or selling counterfeit money and securities) and other articles of the Criminal Code.
They were recognized as political prisoners by human rights groups.
It was alleged that they were severely tortured during the investigation.
The authorities argued that members of the Dadashbeyli group collaborated with Iranian intelligence and sought to change forcefully the state system similar to the Iranian regime. However, no real evidence of the preparation of a coup was presented at the trial. -0-

On Saturday, December 7th, a session of the "Musavat" Party's Majlis took place. During the session, the party leader, Isa Gambar, presented a report on the current socio-political situation in the country. The Majlis also approved a decision by the party’s board to grant district organizations of "Musavat" the authority to nominate candidates for the municipal elections scheduled for January 29, 2025. The party outlined its main areas of activity for 2025. A statement was issued on the human rights situation in the country.

The press freedom organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned the arrests of Meydan TV employees. A statement of the organization on RSF’s X (formerly Twitter) account said: "Reporters Without Borders condemns these new arrests and calls for their immediate release, as well as the release of 13 other journalists held in disgraceful conditions on trumped-up charges."
