The former Interior Minister of Nakhchivan received 11 years of imprisonment
Baku/18.06.21/Turan: The trial of the former Interior Minister of the Autonomous Republic Ahmed Akhmedov has ended in the Nakhchivan Military Court under the chairmanship of judge Polad Hasanov.
The court sentenced him to 11 years of imprisonment.
The court confirmed the verdict information to the Turan news agency.
Akhmedov served as the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region in 2000-2017.
In March this year Akhmedov was arrested. He was charged under Article 179.4 (misappropriation of particularly large amount) of the Criminal Code.
The court did not specify on what date the verdict was announced to Akhmedov but noted that he had already filed an appeal.
Representatives of Akhmedov failed to comment. -03B06-

The Prosecutor's Office is investigating the deaths of two people during the recent floods in Baku, Baku Mayor Eldar Azizov said commenting on the consequences of the flooding of tunnels in the capital during the heavy rains on October 22 to journalists. According to him, the sewer system could not handle the large volume of floodwater, which led to the drowning of two people in a tunnel in the Sabunchu district of Baku. The floods revealed vulnerabilities in Baku's water infrastructure.
