Kanal 13, Aziz Orujov
The head of Kanal 13 is accused of “unauthorized construction”
Baku/28.11.23/Turan: After conducting searches at the apartment of the head of Kanal 13, Aziz Orujov, and the office of this resource, he was detained as a suspect.
According to Orujov's lawyer Bahruz Bayramov, the journalist was charged under Article 188.2. (unauthorized construction work on a land plot without the right of ownership, use or lease established by law).
Under this article, Orudzhev faces a penalty of imprisonment for a term of one to three years.
He denies this accusation and links it to his professional journalistic activities.
Orudzhev, in particular, is accused of illegal construction of a house
in the village “20th section” of the Sabail district of Baku.
“But as Aziz himself said, in this territory there are thousands of
were built without permits. It turns out that criminal cases should be opened against all these residential properties?” the lawyer noted.
In turn, A. Orujov’s wife Lamia Orujova told Turan that during the searches, security forces seized two of her husband’s laptops, a phone that he did not use, and documents related to the journalist’s previous arrest.
Orujov was detained amid a propaganda campaign in pro-government media about the “illegality” of grants from Western structures provided to Azerbaijani media. This campaign was launched after the arrest of the leaders of the online publication Abzas Media, which publishes investigative journalism about corruption among high-ranking Azerbaijani officials.
Aziz Orujov had previously been subject to criminal prosecution on charges of economic crimes.
In 2017, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. However, the punishment was subsequently commuted and in 2018 he was released on parole.
In recent years, the channel has broadcast in the format of a yotube channel. -03B06-
