The PFPA is preparing for the congress
Baku/19.06.23/Turan: The seventh (X) congress of the opposition Party of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PFPA) will be held on June 24 at the House of Culture in the village of Mashtaga. More than 300 delegates from local party organizations were elected to the congress, a member of the presidium of the PFPA Agyl Maharramov told Turan.
According to him, the Executive Power of Baku offered only the House of Culture in the village of Mashtaga to the appeal of the PFPA to provide a place for the congress. He noted that due to the limited number of seats in the specified hall, only delegates will be present at the congress, there will be no invited guests.
The agenda of the congress includes the report of the chairman of the PFPA, the elections of the governing bodies - the head of the party, members of the control and audit party and the Supreme Mejlis.
The decisions of the congress and other documents in accordance with the new law on political parties will be submitted to the Ministry of Justice for re-registration of the party. The previous congress of the party was held in 2015, although according to the charter, congresses should be held every two years.
Maharramov explained the long break between the congresses by the refusal of the authorities to provide the party with a room for this. The PFPA is the successor of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan, established in 1989.
The leader of the Popular Front, Abulfaz Elchibey, served as President of Azerbaijan in 1992-1993. In 1995, the Popular Front was transformed into a party and registered in the same year. The chairman of the PPFA since 2001 is Ali Kerimli. ---06B---
