The pre-trial detention center does not allow A.Mammadli to use the right to notarial services
In the pre-trial detention center, Alesker Mammadli cannot stabilize his blood pressure, despite taking medications, Nasimi Mammadli, the brother of the founder of “Toplum TV”, told Turan news agency. "Keeping Alesker in a confined space caused him a number of serious problems. The tumor in the thyroid gland still makes it difficult to breathe," the brother noted. "The electronic signature of “Asan Imza” and Alesker's identity card have been seized by the investigative body. This makes it impossible to submit tax reports. To get a new "Asan Imza” Alesker must issue a power of attorney to his loved ones. "However, in violation of the law on the rights and freedoms of persons held in places of detention, a notary is not allowed to see him," Mammadli said.
A power of attorney is also required for the sale of A.Mammadli's car to cover the costs of studying at universities for his two children, and the family is experiencing financial difficulties. Within a week, the lawyers plan to file a new petition to transfer Mammadli to house arrest.
*On March 6-8, 9 employees of “Toplum TV” and its partner organization, the Institute of Democratic Initiatives, were detained. They were accused of smuggling foreign currency. Seven people were arrested and two were placed under police supervision. The founder of “Toplum TV”, Alesker Mammadli, was also accused of currency smuggling. During a search of his apartment, they allegedly found 7,300 euros.
On June 14, the Khatai court granted a request for a medical examination in a private clinic.
