The public prosecutor asked the court to sentence the APFP member to 10 years in prison

At the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Samir Aliyev, on November 10, the public prosecutor demanded that Agil Humbatov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Lawyer Nemat Karimli told Turan.

In his speech, the public prosecutor said that it was proved in court that Yaman Mammadov stabbed Humbatov in Zira settlement, where he lived.

Agil Humbatov protested against the prosecutor's statement, saying that he did not stab anyone, and that Mammadov was carrying out a plan to arrest him - injuring himself.

According to the lawyer, the defense must act after the prosecutor.

Thus, Judge Samir Aliyev asked lawyer Nemat Karimli to speak urgently, but the lawyer said he was not ready to speak.

Nemat Karimli asked for time to prepare for the speech. He was given until November 15.

An APFP activist is accused of stabbing a man named Yaman Mammadov in the Zira settlement of Baku on August 11 this year.

A criminal case was opened against Humbatov under Article 126.2.4 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm with intent to commit hooliganism) and the Khazar District Court sentenced him to four months in prison.

The APFP activist was previously detained on March 14, 2019 and sentenced to 30 days of administrative detention.

The PPFA said that the reason for his detention was his appeal to President Ilham Aliyev on social networks.

Humbatov, a resident of Baku's Zira settlement, said he was unemployed and had three children. The local government did not deal with his problems, so he had to earn money by collecting and selling cardboard in landfills.

After that, Humbatov was taken to the Republican Psychiatric Hospital No. 1 in April and June 2020 in the Mashtagha settlement of Baku.
