Baku/19.08.21/ Turan: On August19, the meeting of the CEC adopted a decision on reorganization of the composition of 125 district election commissions of Azerbaijan.

The reason is the requirement of legislation on the formation of commissions after the next parliamentary elections (February 2020).

Each District Commission consists of nine people, three of whom are nominated from the ruling party with a majority in parliament, the next three from parties with a minority in parliament, and three more from non-party deputies.

The reorganization of the composition of the commissions is of a formal nature and does not play a fundamental role, since the real opposition cannot nominate its own candidates. The country's authorities ignored the opposition's proposal to form commissions on a parity basis. This initiative was also supported by the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. -02D-
