Baku/05.01.22/Turan: On Wednesday afternoon, January 5, thousands of protesters seized the Almaty residence of the President of Kazakhstan, local media reported.

At the same time, they seized and set fire to the building of the ruling Nur Otan (Light of the Fatherland) party. This party was founded by the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. -02D-

In Alma-Ata protesters seized Mayor's and Prosecutor's Offices /UPDATED/

Baku/05.01.22/Turan: At noon on January 5, protesters in Alma-Ata stormed the city hall and set it on fire. Also, the city Prosecutor's Office was seized where a fire broke out as well.

According to local media reports, protesters were armed with rebar, sticks and shields.  Clashes with the police in front of the city hall continue. There are several thousand people storming the building. The police use stun grenades; however, all in vain.

It should be added that the protests in Kazakhstan started on January 2 and are still ongoing because of rise in iquefied gas prices. -0-

Kazakhstan demands Nursultan Nazarbayev's retiral after government resignation

Baku/05.01.22/Turan: Following the resignation of the Kazakhstan government and the declaration of the state of emergency, the unrest has not ceased, although the government has promised to reconsider a question of raising prices for liquefied gas.

On January 5, the protests continued in Alamaty and a number of other cities, including Zhanaozen and Semipalatinsk.

In Zhanaozen, the protesters demand a change of government, the holding of popular elections, the return of the 1993 Constitution, as well as the refusal to persecute civil activists. The protesters demand the retiral of Nursultan Nazarbayev from politics. About 12,000 people have gathered on the city's central square demanding to turn on the Internet as well.

Last night, the protesters blocked roads and clashed with police. In Almaty, Shymkent and Taraz, the protesters attacked regional administrations and broke windows and doors. Also, they threw stones, sticks and Molotov cocktails at local administrations. 95 policemen were injured and more than 200 people detained.

At the same time, in the town of Aktobe, police officers refused to detain the protesters. The law enforcement officers stated that "they are with the people and will not raise arms against them." -02D-
