The US and France urge Azerbaijan and Armenia to de-escalate
Baku/17.07.20/Turan: The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
"The United States is deeply concerned about deaths and violence on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, we express our condolences to all victims and call on the parties to immediately de-escalate, resume meaningful dialogue and ceasefire to start negotiations with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs as co-chairs," said Pompeo.
The French Foreign Ministry also called on the parties to de-escalate the situation. “France condemns the armed confrontation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, which began on Sunday and led to numerous casualties,” the statement said.
Official Paris called on the parties to continue the dialogue to de-escalate and respect the ceasefire.
France, as co-chairs of the Minsk Group, along with Russia and the United States, reaffirms its commitment to a peaceful and sustainable settlement of the conflict through negotiation. -16D-
