Trial in the case of the PPFA begins in Sumgayit
Preliminary hearing in the case of Dashgin Melikov the young activist of the Popular Front Party, who is accused of illegal possession of drugs, took place today in the Sumgayit City Court under the chairmanship of Agil Abbasov.
His lawyer Asabali Mustafaev made a three petitions, asking to stop the prosecution Melikov.
If the request is rejected, the lawyer suggested to consider two other petitions - to replace detention for an alternative measure - house arrest, bail, etc., and a violation of his right for to liberty and personal security.
The lawyer explained his petitions by the health of the young man, who is a disabled group, and suffers from bronchial asthma. The prosecutor was not ready to express attitude to a defense motion, and the trial was adjourned.
Melikov’s associates claim that the real reason for his arrest is his political activity. He is active participant in the political actions of young people held in the spring.
