Turkey and Israel normalize relations
Baku/18.11.21/Turan: Presidents of Turkey and Israel Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Yitzhak Herzog discussed bilateral relations and the situation in the region by phone, the Liaison Office of the Turkish Presidential Administration, Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday.
In a conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Erdogan called the ties between Turkey and Israel significant for security and stability in the Middle East. The Turkish head of state noted that disagreements between the two countries can be minimized if mutual understanding is reached on both bilateral and regional issues. He stressed the importance of restoring an atmosphere of peace, tolerance and a culture of coexistence in the region. For this, it is important to develop Palestinian-Israeli ties and resume the peace process between the parties.
Erdogan believes that maintaining contacts and dialogue between Turkey and Israel is in the interests of both countries.
The press service of the President of Israel also circulated a message about a telephone conversation between Erdogan and the Duke, according to which the conversation took place at the initiative of the Israeli side. The talks were held in a positive manner, Erdogan stressed the importance of ties with Israel in terms of ensuring peace, stability and security in the Middle East.
The Duke, in turn, expressed his satisfaction that Israel and Turkey are in favor of a comprehensive dialogue on bilateral and regional issues to ensure peace in the region. The heads of state stressed the need to maintain constant contacts.
Relations between the two countries deteriorated badly 11 years ago, when Ankara tried to put pressure on Israel to protect the rights of the Palestinians. -02D-
