Twenty-fifth Anniversary of Kalbajars Occupation by Armenia
Baku / 02.04.18 / Turan: Twenty-five years have passed since the occupation of Azerbaijan"s Kalbajar district by the armed forces of Armenia.
After several days of fighting, Kalbajar was occupied by Armenians on April 2, 1993. During the seizure of the area of 1,936 square km more than 500 people were killed, and more than 300 were taken as hostages or got lost. 58,000 inhabitants of the region became internally displaced persons. 130 settlements of the region were seized by the Armenian armed forces. Cultural and religious monuments, including churches, were destroyed and museums were plundered by the invaders.
After the occupation of the Kalbajar district, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 822, in which it demanded the immediate withdrawal of the occupation forces. However, this resolution, like the subsequent three resolutions of the UN Security Council, which contain demands for the withdrawal of Armenian troops, still remain unfulfilled.
Armenia, contrary to the principles of the UN and the OSCE, is illegally populating the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. -06D-
