Twselve Azerbaijanis convicted in Iran for action in support of Karabakh
Baku/12.10.21/Turan: Twelve activists who participated in the rally in support of Karabakh in 2020 were arrested in the Iranian city of Ardabil, populated by Azerbaijanis. On October 9, a local court sentenced them to 15 years in prison and 888 blows with rods, Voice of America radio reports, citing the human rights agency HRA.
The report of the Ardabil court says that Parviz Siyabi, Hussein Balkhany, Murtaza Parvin, Hamid Heydari, Mohammed Cholani Ojag, Mustafa Parvin, Subhani Bakhshi, Mekhti Khushmand, Bakhman Kheyirchi, Muzhtaba Parvin, Asker Akperzolani, each for 32 months days of arrest and 74 blows with rods.
They are accused of "committing a riot against the police" and "organizing riots." The trial against these persons began on September 26 at the Ardabil Criminal Court.
On September 29, 2020, in connection with the outbreak of the Second Karabakh War in the city park of Ardabil, local Azerbaijanis organized an action of solidarity with the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. Dozens of people were detained during and after the action. -16D-

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
