U.S. deputy assistant Secretary of State met with civil society and political activists
Baku/14.06.22/Turan: On June 13, U.S. deputy assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Kara McDonald met with Azerbaijani civil society representatives, including journalists and political and social activists during her visit to Azerbaijan. This is said in a report from the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan.
According to the report, Ms. MacDonald said that the U.S. supports Azerbaijan's efforts to strengthen fundamental rights and freedoms, including freedom of expression, assembly and association, as well as efforts to develop democratic processes.
In his turn, public figure Bakhtiyar Hajiyev said that the meeting with the deputy assistant Secretary of State was quite open, sincere and detailed.
He pointed out that he provided information about human rights problems in the country.
"We also discussed the risks that may arise in the future. There was a frank exchange of views on mistakes the U.S. administration had made in the past, and on right steps it is taking now.
Kara MacDonald's visit to Azerbaijan will continue until June 15. -0-
