US provides Azerbaijan with $ 1.5 million to fight COVID-19
Baku / 24.08.20 / Turan: The US government, through the International Development Agency (USAID) and the State Department, will allocate $ 1.47 million to Azerbaijan to fight the corona virus pandemic and its consequences, a press release from the US Embassy.
$ 1 million will be allocated for USAID activities in the private sector to provide technical assistance and advisory services to the government, support to small and medium-sized enterprises in agriculture and agro-tourism to overcome the difficulties caused by the pandemic.
Another 471 thousand dollars are allocated by the State Department for migrants affected by the pandemic in providing them with shelter, food and medical services.
“The COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to combat its spread have created problems for small and medium-sized businesses in the US, Azerbaijan and around the world. This additional funding from the American people will help small and medium-sized businesses and their employees weather the crisis. We want the people of Azerbaijan to know that we will be with them throughout the entire COVID-19 crisis and until its consequences are overcome, ”said US Ambassador Lee Litzenberger.
The United States has already allocated more than $ 5 million to Azerbaijan to combat the consequences of COVID-19. These funds were used: to provide food and hygiene items for more than 3,600 people in need throughout the country; informing people about the steps necessary to prevent the spread of the virus and respond to it; and the successful REACT-C19 project, which recruited 19 doctors from Turkey as consultants to help improve the performance of local hospitals.
The United States provided funding to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Organization for Migration, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in Azerbaijan.
Since the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the United States has provided $ 20.5 billion in special assistance to fight the pandemic around the world. -16D-
