U.S. Sends Another $425 Million Aid Package To Ukraine
The Biden administration on Friday announced a total of $425 million package for Ukraine, planning to deliver a shipment of artillery rounds, ammunition, air defense munitions and cold weather gear ahead of winter, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
About $300 million will be provided from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, in which the U.S. will buy weapons systems from the defense industry before delivering them to Ukraine, according to the Pentagon.
Another $125 million in the package will be pulled directly from defense stocks, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
That includes more than 3 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenades, 12 transport trucks, winter gear, demolition equipment, munitions for missile and rocket defense systems and 155 mm and 105 mm artillery rounds.
The move comes as the Biden administration is running out of available funds to send to Ukraine, while the Congress has stalled on passing another round of assistance.
"We will continue to work with Congress to advance our national security interests by helping Ukraine defend itself and secure its future – a future in which its people rebuild and live safely in a resilient and thriving democracy," Blinken said in this statement.
