What do you expect from the new president of Iran?
The National Liberation Front of the South Azerbaijan held a roundtable on the topic "Post-election expectations in Iran and South Azerbaijan factor."
The event was attended by experts and representatives of political parties, and immigrants from South Azerbaijan.
According to Elkhan Shahinoglu, the head of the Centre for Research "Atlas", the main issue for the president Hasan Rouhani is that he will not be under the influence of the spiritual leader, Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian people expect from the new president, indigenous, liberal reforms. Political prisoners should be released, and the economy revived. One of the first steps of the new president should be the release of Mousavi and Karroubi.
But the new president has not fulfilled promises in connection with the South Azerbaijan. So, after his election, 38 national activists were arrested, as well as those who were previously released on bail.
With regard to relations with the Azerbaijan Republic, the policy on this issue has become even more rigid than under Ahmedinizhate.
Under all the presidents of Iran, the policy towards Azerbaijan formed by security forces. This policy continues today.
Other speakers expressed pessimism about the possibility of any liberal reforms in Iran and particularly against Azerbaijan.
At the end of the event were awarded to journalists for articles about South Azerbaijan. -03В-
