Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan

Baku/05.09.22/Turan: At the end of the last week, in an interview with an Italian newspaper, Ilham Aliyev stated that a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia could be signed by the end of this year.

The day before, the Armenian telegram channels reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made a similar statement at a closed meeting with members of his Party. He made it clear that he would not yield to pressures of forces that urge him not to do this.

The same sources reported that Azerbaijan has set a condition to withdraw all large-caliber weapons from Karabakh. Note that the Russian peacekeepers are also of the same opinion.

The same issue was discussed at a meeting on Sunday in Khankyandi, where separatist leader Araik Harutyunyan gathered the military leadership of the Karabakh forces.

Meanwhile, separatist leaders and the Armenian opposition continue to assert that they will not agree to the inclusion of Karabakh into Azerbaijan.

It should be recalled that Baku suggested to sign a peace treaty on the basis of five points implying mutual recognition of territorial integrity. So the attempts of the Armenian side to provide Karabakh with the status of autonomy were rejected by Azerbaijan. -02D-
