Baku / 02.11.17 / Turan: The preliminary investigation into the cases of the journalist Afgan Mukhtarli and the deputy chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Gezal Bayramli has been completed. This was announced to them in Baku Detention Center No. 1 on November 1, the lawyer of both accused Elchin Sadygov wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, the case against Mukhtarli has been separated into a separate case from the case against Meydan TV. The lawyer recalled that both cases were combined in one proceeding at the beginning of the investigation against Mukhtarli. Now the accused together with the lawyers will get acquainted with the materials of the criminal case.

At the same time, the lawyer pointed to the worsening of Gezal Bayramli's health problems. "Currently, Gezal Bayramli suffers from acute pains in the stomach. She has been only examined by an ultrasound machine, but no treatment or medication is provided to her," the lawyer wrote. However, according to him, Mukhtarli and Bayramli keep cheerful.

According to the defense, Mukhtarli was abducted in Tbilisi on May 29 and secretly transferred to Azerbaijan, where a criminal case was initiated against him under Art. 315.2 (resistance to a representative of the government with the use of violence), 318.1 (illegal crossing of the state border) and 206.1 (smuggling) of the Criminal Code.
