Several thousand manats collected at the marathon in support of Ogtay Gyulalyev
Baku / 12.13.19 / Turan: Today at the Musavat party headquarters, a marathon was held to raise funds to help human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev.
“We will do our best to support the family of Ogtay Gyulalyev until his recovery,” the action’s initiator, former political prisoner Rufat Safarov, told Turan.
According to him, political figures, party leaders, lawyers, journalists, ordinary citizens took part in the marathon.
He noted that by 15:00 several thousand manats had been collected. Following the results of the public action, full information will be provided.
“Ogtay Gyulalyev is an unyielding and principled champion of human rights, an activist of the practically destroyed civil society of Azerbaijan,” Safarov said.
* Gyulalyev was hit by a car on October 29 in the center of Baku and received a severe head injury. A few hours later, he fell into a coma. On October 30, a neurosurgical operation was performed on him in Baku.
Turkish specialists who arrived on November 5 at the invitation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation recommended that he be taken to Turkey for treatment. On November 6, he was sent on a special flight to Istanbul and placed in the Avrasia Clinic. On November 19, he was transferred to the American Hospital, where the next day he underwent another neurosurgical operation, removing fluid from his head.
