Soviet-era mines discovered in the Caspian Sea
Baku/04.05.22/Turan: In the course of reconnaissance of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea carried out by a branch of UMID BABEK OPERATING COMPANY, unidentified objects were found at a depth of 60 meters. This was reported by Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan on Wednesday.
During survey of the water area by specialists and crews of naval vessels, there were found six large ship anchor mines (KB-1), dropped in the water without observing the standards of mines in the time of the former USSR.
Since May 9, in cooperation with other state agencies, it is planned to continue the search and neutralization of the discovered mines in line with safety measures, the report says.
The area where mines were found is temporarily closed to navigation, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry's press release stressed.-16D-
