Areas for hazelnuts are expanding, production and yields are decreasing. What is the solution to the problem?

A report released recently by the State Statistics Committee (SSC) says that in January-March of this year, agricultural products worth 1,444.6 million manats were produced in Azerbaijan, including livestock products worth 1,368.5 million manats, crop production by 76.1 million manats, by 1.1% more than in the same period last year of the year. According to the committee, in the first quarter of 2024, gross agricultural output increased by 1.1% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, including livestock production by 1.0% and crop production by 2.9%.

Recently, the Azerbaijani Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan imposed restrictions on the import of small cattle from Georgia.

Our calculations, based on information provided by the State Customs Committee (SCC), showed that the cost of food products imported by Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2024 was 0.3% higher than in the same period last year.

Unfortunately, in Azerbaijan, products grown in buried soil are offered to consumers at a high price. Our research shows that tomatoes are sold 2-3 times more expensive in Azerbaijani markets in autumn, winter and spring than in neighboring countries.
