Earlier this week, the Taliban that captured most of Afghanistan tried to negotiate peace with Ahmad Massoud, the son of the Taliban enemy, popular warlord Ahmad Shah Massoud (1953-2001), who led the resistance in Panjshir. It is reported that Ahmad Massoud rejected the peace proposal of the Taliban negotiators.
Tajikistan is behind Massoud, as can be seen from the synchronicity of statements by the President of Tajikistan Imamali Rahmonov and Massoud himself. Both demand the creation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, with the inclusion of representatives of all ethnic groups in Afghanistan. "... Especially the Tajiks of Afghanistan, who make up more than 46% of the population of this country ..." Tajiks must occupy a worthy position in the future government of Afghanistan," the statement of the presidential press service.
"Tajikistan will never recognize any other government formed in this country through oppression and persecution, without taking into account the position of the entire Afghan people, especially all of its national minorities," the Tajik news agency said President Rahmonov said.
"Never recognizes a government formed ... through oppression and persecution" - this part of the statement directly indicates the determination of Tajikistan to fight the Taliban dominance in Afghanistan.
While Russia and some other countries are looking for ways to come to terms with the Taliban, Tajikistan has assumed world leadership in rallying international forces for a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan on the Tajik, naturally declared basis.
"The indifference of the international community to the current situation in Afghanistan could lead to a protracted civil war in this country. Tajikistan is committed to the early restoration of peace, stability and security in neighboring Afghanistan, and the United Nations must play a key role in supporting this process," the press reported -service of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The anniversary Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO will be held in Dushanbe on September 16-17 this year, ASIA-Plus reports. There is no doubt that Rahmonov will call on the SCO to get involved in the "Afghan process" on the principles declared by Tajikistan.
Militarily, Massoud has been failing so far. On August 22, the Taliban regained control of the areas of Puli Khesar, Deh Salah and Banu in the Afghan province of Baghlan, which had been occupied a little earlier by Massoud's forces, having recaptured them from the resistance forces, and surrounded part of the armed forces of Massoud.
Massoud's Armed Forces may be strengthened, as they report the delivery of weapons by helicopters from Tajikistan for the Massoud army. It is noted that the resistance units are in dire need of help, as they are under siege by radical militants.
Political support for Massoud is provided by Imamali Rahmonov, who is in diplomatic contact with Pakistan, which supports the Taliban.
Panjshir became a center of resistance to Taliban rule on August 17, when former Afghan Interior Minister Amrullah Saleh arrived in the hard-to-reach region controlled by the troops of Massoud Jr., declaring himself acting president of the country. To confront the Taliban, the leaders of the resistance asked the international community to send them weapons and ammunition.
