Akhir Charshanba Celebrated Today
On March 15, Azerbaijan celebrates Akhir Charshanba - the last Tuesday before the Novruz holiday. It is the second most important day of the festival, together with Bayram Akhshamy (the evening of Novruz).
This day is associated with numerous rituals and ceremonies, symbolizing the coming of spring, the solution of problems and the relief of illnesses.
In the evening, there are bonfires people (especially young ones) jump over, while girls are wondering on happiness at home or preparing pilaf and sweets.
Tables should be covered with a special set of sweets, dried fruits, nuts, colored eggs, candles and wheat sprouts.
Depending on the regions of the country, these rules and traditions vary. However, music, dancing and funny scenes are a mandatory part of the celebration everywhere. -02B-
