How Tofig Yagublu beat himself up
Baku/17.01.22/Turan: According to the conclusion of the prosecutor's office of the Sabail region, Tofig Yagublu, a member of the National Council and the Musavat party, injured himself. Araz Akbarov, senior investigator of the prosecutor's office, wrote in his ruling:
“Because the injuries found on the body of Tofig Yagublu are in accessible places on the body, it cannot be ruled out that the injuries were inflicted by him or by blows to the facial area on various parts of the car.”
Earlier, the police claimed that Yagublu was detained during a rally on Fountain Square on December 1, and when he was taken to the 39th police station, he hit his head against the door of the Post-Patrol Service car, and in the police station he hit himself with his fist, etc.
Tofig Yagublu was detained by the police on December 1 at about 15:00 on the Fountains Square during a rally in support of Saleh Rustamov, who went on a hunger strike at that time. In the evening of the same day, Yagublu was found with severe wounds in the village of Alyat. The political activist said that he was first beaten in the 39th police station, and then tortured while being taken blindfolded.
Tofig Yagublu himself commented on the decision of the prosecutor's office in the "Difficult Question" program.
According to him, after his complaint about being beaten by security forces was sent to the prosecutor's office, various assumptions were made about how the investigating body would react.
“There were versions that they could find a scapegoat, they could initiate a criminal case, but drag it out indefinitely or send the case to court in order to “bury” him there, etc. But, of course, no one believed that the true criminals could be held accountable. It was also suggested that the prosecutor's office would claim that I had self-inflicted injuries. This version looked absolutely fantastic… But that's what happened,” the oppositionist said.
Yagublu stressed that there were many witnesses to his detention, and when he was taken to the police, there were also many other detainees there.
They saw me there, Yagublu said, adding that on that day, as if by magic, all the security cameras in Fountain Square, where he was detained, as well as around the 39th department and on his way to Alyat, where he was brought and thrown into the wasteland.
“There were dozens of cameras. In 2020, when I was arrested on slander at the 8th kilometer market, then, also by an inexplicable coincidence, all the cameras stopped working,” Yagublu said.
“They do not hesitate to claim that I beat myself up to discredit the police. For me, it is obvious that this crime was committed on the orders of Ilham Aliyev,” the oppositionist assures. –0—
