Baku/12.05.21/Turan: Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev considers “unfounded hype” the information disseminated recently on social networks in connection with the "Terter case".
On May 10, answering a question from journalists about the information disseminated on social networks about the biased investigation of the "Tartar case" disseminated on social networks, Aliyev said that in 2017 an investigation was carried out in the "Tartar case”.
"Work was started on specific criminal cases, charges were brought against specific individuals, appropriate court sentences were passed, and this case was sent to the Supreme Court. In this regard, the public was provided with detailed information. It is absurd to create unreasonable noise around this case," the Prosecutor General said ...
It is unreasonable to call the torture of detainees in the "Terter case" "absurd", as the Prosecutor General says, and "a fairy tale", as the military prosecutor said. Not 3-5 people speak about torture, many soldiers and officers who were tortured, said Rasul Jafarov, head of the Baku Human Rights Club in an interview with “Difficult Question” on May 12.
In his opinion, to put it mildly, the military prosecutor is not telling the truth. There are several Supreme Court decisions regarding torture. People were tortured and forced to slandered and call traitors the other people.
Jafarov says there are cases when servicemen testified about treason against servicemen from other military units. There are no documents to support these charges.
“These statements were also obtained through torture. There are people who have been tortured and have not been recognized as victims. Even the verdicts and rulings of the courts speak of torture. It seems that the people were gathered and subjected to torture and the one whom they slandered, calling them spies, was recognized by the investigation as a traitor to the motherland,” Jafarov said.
According to him, 10 servicemen involved in the "Tartar case" went to court precisely on the facts of torture and want their cases to be comprehensively investigated, among them there are officers and warrant officers.
The human rights activist added that there are people who were released after incriminating others. Among the specified persons are military personnel who distinguished themselves in the April 2016 battles and received state awards.
He believes that there is no convincing evidence of treason to the Motherland, and if this were so, then a secret court hearing on this matter would take place.
According to Jafarov, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Military Prosecutor's Office are not interested in a fair investigation of the case. According to the human rights activist, in order to establish the truth, it is necessary to investigate the actions of all parties to the "Terter case", regardless of rank and position.
The “Terter case” arose in May 2016 in connection with the arrest of a group of military men accused of treason. According to Azerbaijani human rights activists, more than 100 soldiers and officers of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were tortured, 25 received long prison sentences and at least nine died from torture. According to human rights activist Oktay Gyulalyev, nine servicemen died, unable to stand the torture, while no criminal proceedings were instituted against five of them. –0—
